CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCHES FOR REFRIGERATED TRANSPORT: 9th January, 2012

Most trucks (rigid body) and trailers (articulated) carrying perishable goods have "overcab" and trailer mounted refrigeration units fitted. The majority are diesel driven with electric motor option when the vehicle may be parked overnight in a quiet are. The fridge will start alternatively as required to maintain the required temperature on board.

A centrifugal clutch fitted to the engine automatically allows:
a) The engine to start without load from the compressor.
b) The electric motor to drive without "backdriving" the diesel engine.
