ONE WAY CLUTCH GIVES SINGLE REVOLUTION.: 24th October, 2012

ONE WAY CLUTCHES ( FREEWHEELS ) ARE BACKSTOPPING USED TO:
1) PREVENT A SHAFT REVERSING
2) ALLOW A SHAFT TO RUN FASTER THAN THE DRIVE (OVERRUNNING)
3) ALLOW A SHAFT TO BE DRIVEN INTERMITTENTLY (INDEXING)

A SINGLE REVOLUTION FREEWHEEL CLUTCH ALLOWS FOR IMPARTING ONE REVOLUTION (360 DEGREES) TO A SHAFT FROM A CONTINUOUSLY ROTATING INPUT WITHOUT ANY CUMULATIVE ERROR OCCURRING. THE IMAGE ON THE RIGHT SHOWS A 20MM BORE CLUTCH. THE OUTER RING ROTATES CONTINUOUSLY AND WHEN A LATCH IS RAISED FROM THE FROM THE "STOP PLATE" THE SHAFT IS DRIVEN 360 DEGREES OR MORE TILL THE LATCH IS RETURNED.

FREEWHEELS, BACKSTOPS, ONE WAY CLUTCHES, OVERRUNNING CLUTCHES AND SPRAG CLUTCHES ARE USED IN MOTORS, PUMPS, PACKAGING MACHINES, PRINTING MACHINES, CONVEYORS, EXERCISE MACHINES, STANDBY DRIVES, PRESS FEEDS, ETC.
